Good Shot (2025)
81 minutes
In the heart of Watts, Los Angeles, Maxwell Henderson is a man who needs no introduction — at least not in his neighborhood. A larger than life personality, a basketball legend, a symbol of hope for an entire community. But behind the charisma and the trophies is a man whose pain has been hiding in plain sight for decades.

As the neighborhood around him changes and his eldest son unexpectedly moves in, Maxwell is forced to confront the man he's become and the father he wants to be. Guided by the same community that once cheered him on, Good Shot is an affecting portrait of a man learning that showing up — even imperfectly — can be its own kind of victory.

Director’s Statement
by Joris Debeij

“You would only know Maxwell if you lived in Watts during the '80s and '90s. That was always the thing that drew me in — not just the man, but the idea that so many people like him exist in every city, every neighborhood, every housing development across this country, and their stories go untold.

I was an outsider to this world in almost every way, stepping into South Central Los Angeles from a place and a life that couldn't be more different. But I understood what a tight-knit community felt like, and that was my way in. We didn't shoot a single frame until four years into knowing Maxwell. What you see on screen is the result of that time — the trust, the closeness, the pain he was finally willing to let show. The world has been privileged by Maxwell allowing us all to get this close.”
